Science Fair Ideas
First Idea
My first choice for a science fair project is to test if an “environmentally friendly” laundry detergent cleans as well as normal laundry detergent. I will be trying to prove that the normal laundry detergent cleans better than the “environmentally friendly” laundry detergent. To test this I will set up an experiment. I will buy 104 10 X 10 cm squares of cotton. I will stain twenty-six squares of fabric with 5 mL of grape juice per square. Five squares will be washed in each detergent (Tide Coldwater, Wisk, Seventh Generation, and Arm and Hammer) and water. I will repeat these same steps for the other stains (baby food, motor oil, and mustard). The independent variable for this experiment is the type of laundry detergent. The dependent variable is the cotton square with the stain. The controls are the comparison charts. On one chart, I will put a cotton square with each stain on it. On another chart, I will write my scale used to compare what detergent cleans the best. The conclusion of the experiment will be based on what detergent cleans the stain the best.
Second Idea
If I cannot use this idea for the science fair project, I will test if meat dissolves when soaked in a carbonated drink over several days.

Third Idea
If I cannot use this idea for the science fair project either, I will test what kind of drink has more electrolytes: orange juice or a sport drink.
